Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is looking to dip its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The new project - called the Space Key - is a work of art that was made in collaboration with an unidentified artist. The NFT is an exclusive piece of digital art that can be accessable via the use of a QR code. The project is limited and will be auctioned off within the next few weeks.
The Space Key is made of carbon composite material that Lamborghini, as part a research project in the year 2019 sent to the International Space Station. Once it returned to earth, the carbon fiber was transformed into this unique artwork. The physical element is engraved with an NFT serial number which ties to the corresponding digital artwork via a QR code on the back.
For those who don't know, NFTs are distinct identifiers recorded on a distributed blockchain ledger. They are linked to a digital asset such as a photo, video, music or other record. This allows owners to guarantee authenticity and the scarcity of their tokens over the internet.
Working with NFT PRO, a white-label NFT solution for businesses, Lamborghini has taken this unique approach to art to the next level. Over the next few weeks Lamborghini will be sharing details about the exciting project including the name of the unidentified artist and a timeline for the auction.
The physical aspect of the Space Key. Space Key

The project was created in collaboration with an unidentified artist and artist, the NFT is a collector's item that will be auctioned off within a couple of weeks. The core of the NFT is a piece that's made of the latest carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part of a research project. Carbon fiber was 3D printed to form the base of each Space Key. Each Space Key is connected to a unique, digital image via a QR code. Only five Space Keys were produced.
NFTs are unique identifiers that can be stored on distributed ledgers such as the Blockchain and tied to digital assets such as pictures. This is a hot topic for people who have more money than they have common sense. It was just a matter of time until automakers decided to cash in.
Space Key is made up of five parts. It was developed with a carbon fiber composite that was delivered to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT will have an QR code that connects it to a unique digital artwork created by the same artist. In the coming weeks and days, more details will be revealed, including the name and digital artwork of the artist as well as how to purchase one of the five Space Keys.
The digital artwork
